The data is clear, companies that pursue a strategy of innovation are more profitable. However, the large majority of small and mid-sized companies are not actively innovating. In a recent study of US small and mid-sized manufacturing companies, we found that only 15% of these companies have a pro-active mind-set towards innovation, while 85% have a re-active mindset - i.e. NOT actively pursuing innovation. Why?
